ENVIRONMENTAL APRIL | GERMAN MOVIE DAY

GERMAN MOVIE DAY
Wednesday, 8 April, 11: 30 am
Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, Entry: free

As a part of this year’s Environmental April’s program, we are pleased to present two films: Wenn der Eisberg kalbt (When the Iceberg Melts) and Recipes for Disaster. Both films are devoted to the topic of climate change and depict people’s attempts to fight the treat: sometimes naive and funny, sometimes innovative and progressive. The films will be shown with English subtitles.

short film | WENN DER EISBERG KALBT
(When the iceberg melts)
Fiction. Director: Sylvie Hohlbaum, Gregor Schubert,
Germany (2002), 6 min.

Manfred Binder is an ‘inventor’ in the Hesse countryside. To save humankind from rising sea levels, he is creating a gargantuan ‘survival capsule’ which will float on the world's oceans.

feature film | RECIPES FOR DISASTER
Documentary | Comedy
Director: John Webster,
Finland (2008), 85 min.

How can we as individuals combat climate change? The filmmaker John Webster and his family are looking for an answer, leading a low-carbon lifestyle. Over the course of one year, they reduce their ecological ‘footprint’: they do not use a car, electricity or plastic, eat only local food and radically change their diet. Humorous and convincing, this film depicts the daily obstacles and adversities, as well as the newfound freedoms, which they encounter.
